I'm Breanna, the proud owner of The Burrow and the founder of Hagrid's Haven Rabbit Rescue, a rescue dedicated to helping abandoned, neglected, abused, highly medical and disabled rabbits. Our journey began when I was called to assist in a hoarding situation involving rabbits. Facing a critical need for immediate medical attention, I personally funded the recovery of 12 rabbits, forming Hagrid's Haven that very day.
At Hagrid's Haven, we pride ourselves on going above and beyond for the most at-risk rabbits, a commitment that sets us apart from other rescues. While many rescues focus on dumped and sick rabbits that can be more easily restored to health for easier adoptions, or rabbits that are pulled from shelters who are already treated or being treated and with most already spayed/neutered allowing rescue costs to be lowered, we specialize in helping the most vulnerable cases that typically rescues aren’t able to manage. With other rescues already taking on these healthier more stable rabbits, it allows us to focus on the rabbits that are most in need of our help.
This commitment and focus on the most vulnerable stems from my realization that there were no medically inclined rescues in all of Canada. While many rescues handle medical cases, the most at-risk rabbits are often left behind for more healthier ones or ones who are able to make a full recovery due to the cost of care especially if they have an unknown future, making them harder to adopt out.
Established rescues may not take on these cases due to financial, time, and care requirements, as well as the possibility that these rabbits may not be adoptable even after extensive efforts and funds are invested. This means these rabbits will cost the rescue even more funds as they turn into sanctuary rabbits to live out the rest of their days where the rescue must maintain their basic and medical costs. But without someone taking in and helping these rabbits, they are left to be euthanized as no one else is willing to take them on. Ones who have tried to take on these cases have ended up transferring them into our care realizing afterwards everything that is involved in caring for buns like this.
Rabbits are not inexpensive to own or care for, even as a foster. For this reason, I have tried my hardest to bring you chews and other items that are safe and affordable! Instead of solely relying on donations, the store also allows customers to purchase items for their small pets and themselves with all proceeds going directly back into the rescue. That's right! All proceeds from every order and service provided go directly back into Hagrid's Haven Rabbit Rescue, with every purchase you'll be helping rescued rabbits receive medical care along with helping to cover their basic care expenses. We do not take any profit for ourselves, so really, it's like a donation while you get to spoil your fur-babies!
