Pellet-Free Transition Program
Guided Transition or We Can Help!
Service Description
It’s been becoming clear how harmful pellets can be for rabbits which is why every bun in our rescue, Hagrid's Haven Rabbit Rescue, has been on a pellet-less diet since 2020. Pellets expand in the stomach by pulling moisture, leaving little room for nutritious hay and veggies. As they move through the digestive tract, they continue absorbing moisture, which often leads to dehydration and 'random' GI stasis episodes. Pellets require three times their volume in water to break down, making them a major cause of dehydration. Beyond this, pellets are a choking hazard, urinary sludge leading to UTIs when left untreated, obesity, food aggression and more! For rabbits accustomed to a full pellet diet — where they receive mostly pellets with little to no hay or veggies—guided assistance is crucial for a smooth, healthy transition. We offer personalized support or, if you prefer, we can handle the entire transition for you, ensuring your rabbit safely adapts to a pellet-free diet while staying hydrated and healthy. Protect your rabbit’s health by making the switch today—contact us to get started! Guided Advice: Our rabbit expert, Bree, will work with you step-by-step to create a customized plan for transitioning your rabbit to a healthy, pellet-free diet.
